California Yacht Club was established in 1922 and boated its' first competitive rowing team back in the 1930's. Today, adults and kids row year-round on the marina waters. Rowers of all skills levels, from beginner to Olympians, train out of CYC. Below you will find more information on Adult Rowing, Junior Rowing, and our annual regatta Head of the Marina. Junior Rowing
CYC’s Junior Rowing Program is a high-performance team focused on athlete and crew development. We emphasize teamwork, technical skill, and growth in a fun and respectful environment. Our goal is to develop skills for future success. Through sculling (two oars) growing athletes stay balanced in functional, symmetrical movement. Our range of programs, for ages 13-18, allow participants to train, progress, and compete at an appropriate skill level. Our top-level athletes regularly compete (and medal) nationally and continue their rowing careers in college.

Adult Rowing
CYC is a great place for adults of all ages and skills to row out of. We have more than 65 active adult rowers with a wide range of interests and motivations varying from recreational, fitness, social, open water, and racing.
For those new to the sport, we offer introductory lessons that will teach the foundations of the sport and safe boat handling skills. Our goal with lessons is to offer a fun introduction and to build the skills necessary to be a successful and independent rower. Lessons are open to both members and non-members.
Once cleared on safety procedures and operations there are two pathways to continue rowing for CYC Members. The first is to use shells from our club-maintained fleet on a first come-first served basis. The second is to purchase your own shell and rent a rack to store it.

Head of the Marina Regatta
Each year CYC hosts the Head of the Marina Regatta, a 5,000 meter head type race held within the Marina del Rey Harbor. The Regatta is held on the first Sunday of November each year.
