Junior Rowing
Where Young Athletes Find Their Strength
The Junior Rowing Program at California Yacht Club welcomes middle and high school athletes of all skill levels, from brand-new beginners to experienced national-level racers. Our program blends year-round training with a strong team culture, helping young athletes build confidence, discipline, and lifelong friendships. Through rowing, athletes develop not only physical strength but also leadership, resilience, and a deep sense of teamwork.

Our Philosophy
Our program is built on three core pillars:
Passion – Fostering a lifelong love of rowing and strong bonds within our community.
Performance – Developing athletes in a competitive, high-performance environment.
Purpose – Connecting every stroke to personal growth, goal-setting, and resilience.
At CYC, rowing is more than a sport—it’s a path to fitness, focus, and success.

Our Approach
We also introduce a multidisciplinary approach, including Pilates, yoga, general core training, dietician presentations, and sports psychology.
The Developmental Pathway
Youth can learn to row via our weekend program, through private lessons, or through our summer camps. We take our time teaching the fundamentals before exposing athletes to repetition. For a more high-commitment start to the sport, athletes can join the the novice team (Level 3) with no experience.
Junior Rowing 2:
Intermediate Youth can continue their pathway by practicing on weekend mornings (Saturday, Sunday, or both)
Junior Rowing 3:
Novice athletes with some or no experience can begin their racing career by training four days per week (two weekday afternoons, two weekend mornings). This is the pathway to the rowing squad.
Junior Rowing 4:
Aspiring Varsity athletes who are ready to train five days per week and eager to race with the squad can join our competitive team. This is a must for anyone aiming to compete at the collegiate level and beyond. Athletes at this level tend to experience the greatest levels of fitness and camaraderie.
